Good Morning to all and Happy Monday ! I haven’t posted in a while and I am sorry for that. Today I am going to show off one of my favorite thrifted items which is this $4 camo skirt. Let’s talk about the awesome story on how I got this lovely skirt ! I was thrifting for my vacation and I had an instant gut feeling, it was telling me to go to the men’s section. Once I hit the men’s short rack this skirt was sitting at the end of the aisle ! It was my size and just what I had been looking for ! 

 

 I paired this skirt with a Divided Gray shirt from H&M. If you ever heard of the rock band called Blondie this shirt was only $17.99. I wanted to stay simple so I paired this outfit with my all white shell toe adidas. I got my shoes on sale but they are key pieces for your wardrobe.

Happy Birthday to me !

     May 28th was my wonderful birthday ! I turned 23 years old and decided it was time for me to go try out the Sugar Factory. The lovely top I am wearing I made myself a while back when I got my sewing machine. When I tell you I felt special because no one else has this top! So many compliments from people on the strip and the way they reacted when I told them I made it myself ! The skirt I am wearing I picked up from H&M  for $10 and the shoes I got from Urban Outfitters for $5. Overall I only spent $20 on my outfit !

I have been away for some time now and I am coming back with a lot of OOTD’s plus more for you guys! This outfit was not thrifted. My lovely boyfriend and I went to the Fashion Outlets to do a little shopping Sunday morning and this was my outfit! Something fun, simple and cute.

We all know when it’s bright and sunny outside, we can’t bear to squint our eyes to see what’s in front of us. Am I Right ? or Am I RIGHT ! This will be your first KEY Essential for your wardrobe. You guessed right it’s SUNGLASSES ! Ladies & Gents lets talk about how sunglasses can spice up your outfit. No matter what you are wearing, yes I said it you could be wearing sweats and have a bad hair day! Sunglasses can change your outfit from bland to BAM ! I know some people are saying ” But the sunglasses I want are too EXPENSIVE ! ” a lot of high-end brands will have dupes and if you want the look check out Sunglass Spot for affordable sunglasses! I am telling you that you can find your boho round, rock-star and even simple aviator sunglasses for $5. I like to stock up on all types of sunglasses from rimless, over sized & bold color! I like to get sunglass trend ideas from my favorite brand ads or even from magazines. If you don’t want to buy a magazine you can get ideas from Instagram and your favorite icons. Don’t start your Spring off with no accessories, go to H&M also F21 for cheap sunglasses !

How to: Thrift Efficiently

Welcome back everyone ! In this post I will be telling you how to thrift efficiently. Thrifting can get out of hand with the great deals/prices only because it will make you buy everything you see and then never wear it! I would not be discussing this if I haven’t done it myself. The first thing to know before you go shopping is: write down a list on what you are looking for at the store. When you make a list you are making sure that you stay on task. Also give yourself a budget so you won’t break the bank. Just a tip for when you walk into the store, write down the deals of the day in your notes so you can remember them while you’re walking around. [ SPOILER ALERT ]  If you are shopping at a Salvation Army this deal is for you. Throughout the week they have a certain tag color on sale (example. White ) and those tags would be 50% off Mon-Fri. Then on Saturday all white tags would be 60 cents ! Isn’t that awesome. Don’t be afraid to ask the workers about their deals for the week and also at the end of the month.

This next rule is very important. Check every inch of the clothing for stains, rips or any flaw in the garment. If you find a stain and you believe that it will wash out, go ahead put it in your basket. Some stains in the clothing look like they may come out, but they can be water stains. Those honey are not our best friends ! A tip to see if the stain can be removed is to bring a water bottle and a paper towel and lightly wipe it. If you see if fading away you have found a keeper. Always make sure that you try on your clothes before you buy them. If the shirt says it’s a large you must remember that some clothing are lightly used and have been washed and dried multiple times so it might be a small now. Don’t forget to visit every aisle even the sleep wear, you never know what you may find because things are being moved around all day.

After you have tried on all of the clothes in your basket, it is now time to narrow down your choices. I usually ask myself how many times will I wear the item, then I would think of three outfits for it. Once you hit your three outfit thoughts you are ready to keep it and then discard the others that you are really having trouble with. Now, we all have that one item that is a ” I know it’s not on my list but I NEED THIS !” Go ahead and treat yourself, but make sure that it will not collect dust or end up back in the place you are in now. Thrift stores refresh themselves everyday ! You will always go back and find different items so make sure you visit it often and just check and see what they have. You are now ready to go out and buy some clothes. Just remember these rules and you will not break the bank, or become a clothing hoarder. – Parris DeEtte

Guide for Thrifting Jeans

 It’s Saturday ! Lets begin off by talking about how to shop for jeans at the thrift store. The first thing you should know is that all jeans have been worn so they have been washed and dried a couple of times, so plan on going up a size for the right fit. Sometimes you can get lucky and find a fresh pair of jeans with the tags still attached, now that is what I call a GEM at the thrift. Typically people never try on their clothes before purchasing them at the thrift &  that is a big NO NO. I’m going to spare some time for my thrift lovers and tell you my tips and tricks that I use and that are extremely helpful while shopping for jeans.

     Tip#1 if the store has no dressing rooms you can insert your elbow in the inside the waistband of the jeans and stretch it until your finger tips touch the other side. Now if you can fit that part of your arm in the jeans with no problem then the jeans should fit. Now if the jeans are to tight and your forcing your hand to fit then lets just try another pair.

     Tip#2 take the jeans and wrap the waste band around your neck. If it does not touch with a little access fabric in the back then the jeans are going to be too small. If these tips sound a bit much for you wear some leggings and try the jeans on top of them.

Now the trick to knowing the different cuts of jeans you want is to take the bottom of the jeans, and bring it up towards the knee. Now if it’s wider than the knee you have a boot cut; if it’s the same size of the knee you have your straight leg. Lastly if it’s way smaller than the knee you have skinny leg jeans. This is a great trick to know when shopping for jeans because they all tend to look-alike ! Now sometimes on the inside of the waist band they tell you the style of jeans but not all the times. I hope these tips & tricks are helpful in your thrift trip. I use them when I am tight on time or when I become real lazy.

Chic Grunge

Hi my loves ! Today was a huge step for me, I was on a discussion panel at KKC ( Kennedy King College) for Industry Day. I didn’t want to look simple so I decided to bring out my good stuff. I always tell you that you need statement pieces when you put together an outfit, lets go through it!

My outfit consists of a wonderful tulle skirt I bought from H&M for $17.99. Tulle skirts are a great way to add a true feminine touch to your outfit, and it also is very simple so you can dress it up or down. The lovely Black motorcycle jacket also came from H&M and I got it on sale for $10. I believe that motorcycle jackets will always give an edge to your style, and it is most definitely a key piece for your capsule wardrobe.

My tie up ballerina flats I bought from Old Navy for only $7 on sale. I could not pass them up. You always need a pair of black flats in your closet for those important business meetings and any formal get together. Last item will be my thrifted item ! I got this Jones New York polka dot shirt from my last trip to the thrift store. I picked up for only $1.25 and it was in great condition with no stains or tears. Pop of Yellow: OOTD

YAS ! I finally stepped outside my all black clothing boundaries and tried something new. I decided to pull out my spring jacket that I bought from boohoo.com when they had 70% off the entire site !  I got it for only $20 (Insert Praise Hands Emoji). The lovely tie shirt is from Zara and I only got it for $12.90 ! I bought a black version also just so you know how much I love this top. Lastly, my jeans and if you know me you have guessed right they are thrifted ! I bought these Calvin Klein mom jeans for only $1 at my local thrift store. Very basic outfit but the jacket makes a bold statement, you can always dress up your outfits with any bold statement piece. That can go for any outerwear, accessories, shoes and clothing. In my next blog I will show you how to pick out statement pieces to go into your capsule wardrobe.
